Take Me Back to My Childhood

Ah the days before braces. What a time! However, there were a lot of perks to my childhood that I didn't realise how much I missed until I came across a Facebook page tonight called 'British Kids'. I spent hours reminiscing over my childhood as I scrolled through its timeline. This then inspired me to write a blog post so I can enjoy reminiscing even more. Here are a few things that pretty much made up my childhood.

The old Disney Channel and Nickelodeon -
What even is children's television now a days? Every time I catch myself listening to my sister watching TV in the background of whatever I'm doing, I am constantly thinking "What a load of rubbish!". What happened to good quality television? I'm talking more along the lines of Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, Lizzie Maguire, Rugrats, The Fairly Odd Parents, Genie in the House, That's So Raven, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, The Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and even Cory in the House.
A Disney Channel Original Movie -
I'm not sure whether Disney still does this now but when a new movie would be released they would always have the title 'A Disney Channel Original Movie' at the start. If this is still a thing then I'm not reminiscing any of these newbies, I'm reminiscing the real originals; the Disney classics. My Disney Channel classics have always been all of the High School Musical films, Camp Rock, Cadet Kelly, Lemonade Mouth, Princess Protection Programme, Cow Belles, The Cheetah Girls, Halloweentown and of course Halloweentown High, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, Twitches, Twitches Too, Freaky Friday, The Lizzie Maguire Movie, and The Parent Trap. Need not forget the old time classics like The Lion King, Aladdin, 101 Dalmatians, all of the princess films, and The Jungle Book.

Disney Games -
I know I'm mentioning a LOT of Disney but what can I say, Disney Channel was my life back in the day. If I wasn't binge watching every TV show that came in from coming home from school until the channel went off air for the night, I was logging onto the website to play every computer game they had. My favourite was definitely the Hannah Montana game where you could dress her up in all sorts of outfits. It had all of the iconic outfit pieces from the show like her green scarf and white cowboy boots.

TV Shows that were not Disney or Nick -
Now I'm talking The Saddle Club, The Sleepover Club. Both of which were found on the channel Pop Girl. Who remembers Pop Girl? I know I sure do. I also cannot forget to mention good ol' CBBC. My favourite CBBC shows were one hundred percent The Sarah Jane Adventures, The Dumping Ground, Dick & Dom in da Bungalow, Horrible Histories, Bear Behaving Badly, Friday Download, Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, and What's New, Scooby-Doo?

Gameboys -
The days before Nintendo DS and XBOX Live. These were the puppies that everyone wanted. I distinctly remember two games that I would play non stop. These were The Lion King (of course), Hannah Montana  and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Going through the Argos catalogue to write up my Christmas list -
Whenever I saw this magazine in one of the kitchen cupboards, I knew the time had come. The time were I got my pens and paper out, set my mind in focus mood, and started looking for what I wanted that Christmas. It was always the same old things; Sylvanian Families, anything Disney, Barbie, Bratz, you name it.
Disney Channel Games -
These were the pretty much Disney's version of the Olympics. It was something that I looked forward to all year. I mean who wouldn't want to see you favourite actors from your favourite childhood TV shows compete against each other in a round of Rock Paper Scissors Showdown?

Having the biggest Bratz collection that you spend all year increasing and then brining it all into school on the last day to show it all of to your friends -
A bit of healthy competition is always good for the mind but lets face it, we were out to win! It got so competitive that one night when my mum picked me up from school, she got a phone call from one of my friends mum asking if I took home one of her dolls! I promise you guys, I did not. If I did then I sure as hell would have ensured I wasn't caught.

Ice Cream and Jelly -
If I am being completely honest, I still eat this now at the age of 18 if the ingredients are in my house. I don't think it will ever stop being delicious no matter how old you get, but back in the day when mum got out the jelly and ice cream, you knew it was a party!

Mental Maths -
God I hated these things. They were such a downer to the day, but they did have one perk. If you got the most marks in your class by the end of the week, you were sure to receive a certificate and box of smarties at the end of week assembly. I hated going in front of the whole school though.
