The Most Inspiring Coco Chanel Quotes

March 11, 2017

Of course I've been aware of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel for as long as I remember, but I never truly appreciated her until Lisa Chaney, author of Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life, gave a guest lecture in my history and context module before Christmas. I enjoyed the lecture so much, it was definitely the best one that I have had in first year. I was so inspired and intrigued by her life, so much that I even bought Lisa's book, which arrived a couple of days ago. Talk about good promotion skills!

Ever since the lecture I have become more and more fascinated with Chanel and wanted to start to incorporate her more on my blog seen as though my blog is an outlet of expressing who I am and where I am in each stage of my life. I love reading her most famous words of wisdom that she left behind, and today I wanted to share some of my favourites.

"The most courageous act is to think for yourself. Aloud."

"In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different."

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

"Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance."

"Success is most often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable."

"Women have always been the strong ones of the world. The men are always seeking from women a little pillow to put their heads down on. They are always longing for the mother who held them as infants."

"Gentleness doesn't get work done unless you happen to be a hen laying eggs."

"There is no time for cut-and-dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves no other time!"

"There have been several Duchesses of Westminster but there is only one Chanel!"

"I am not young but I feel young. The day I feel old, I will go to bed and stay there. J'aime la vie! I feel that to live is a wonderful thing."
